Police Week will be marked from May 10 to 16, with Cobourg and Port Hope Police Services hosting a range of events focused on community connection, education, and remembrance.
Cobourg Police Service says the week recognizes officers, 9 1 1 communicators, and civilian members who serve the community every day. This year’s theme, “Protecting Ontario through Service,” highlights the role policing plays in building safe and resilient communities.
In Cobourg, events include a storytime session with an officer May 14 at the Cobourg Public Library and a Coffee with a Cop event on May 15 at Rosarya Bakery Café, offering residents a chance to connect with officers in a relaxed setting.
In Port Hope, a full slate of events is planned throughout the week. Activities include a car seat clinic May 11, a free community barbecue May 12, Coffee with a Cop May 13 at Queenie’s Bakeshop, a shredding event May 14 at Giant Tiger, and a Lock It or Lose It initiative May 15 focused on crime prevention.
May 15 also marks Peace Officers Memorial Day, which holds special significance in Cobourg as the anniversary of the death of Constable Chris Garrett in 2004. Residents are encouraged to visit the memorial along Birchwood Trail.
Police say the week is both a celebration of service and a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve their communities.
