YMCA Northumberland says this year’s McHappy Day campaign delivered a major boost for local children and youth programming across the county.
The organization announced Monday that more than $21,250 was raised during the May 6 fundraiser through participating McDonald’s locations in Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton and Campbellford.
The campaign partnered YMCA Northumberland with local McDonald’s owner operators Lisa Wilson in Cobourg and Port Hope and Joe Nardi in Brighton and Campbellford.
According to the YMCA, $16,125 was raised through Cobourg and Port Hope restaurants, while Brighton and Campbellford locations generated another $5,227.
The funds will help support several local projects, including a new outdoor climbing tower at the Cobourg YMCA, a new outdoor pavilion at the Campbellford YMCA and expanded youth programming and day trips connected to Brighton YMCA camps.
YMCA Northumberland President and CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick says the strong turnout reflected the community’s commitment to supporting local children and families.
She says the money raised will help create new opportunities for young people to build confidence, connection and experiences in safe outdoor spaces.
Throughout the day, YMCA staff, volunteers and local dignitaries joined restaurant crews to encourage donations and support the fundraiser.
Zoey Read, Manager of Philanthropy with YMCA Northumberland, says surpassing the 21 thousand dollar mark will help fast track important infrastructure projects while supporting the organization’s mission to help children across Northumberland learn, grow and thrive.
McHappy Day also supports Ronald McDonald House Charities, which helps families stay close to children receiving treatment at hospitals across Canada.
