A free one day showcase this weekend is giving emerging filmmakers a chance to share their work, connect with industry professionals and build creative confidence.
The Eye to Eye Showcase takes place Sunday, May 17 at Victoria Hall in Cobourg and is hosted by Film Access Northumberland, a local organization focused on supporting young filmmakers and growing creative opportunities across the region.
While the event began several years ago as a more traditional film festival, organizers say this year’s format puts the spotlight squarely on mentorship and development.
Vice Chair Richard Stoltenberg says the organization wanted to focus where it could make the biggest impact.
The free showcase includes high school and post-secondary short film competitions, screenings of finalist films, networking opportunities, industry panels and a master class led by professionals working in film and television.
Industry guests include directors, producers, makeup artists, stunt coordinators, writers and camera operators, including several professionals with Northumberland connections.
The event wraps up with a screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, with some of the film’s crew members expected to attend.
Organizers say one of the biggest goals is making sure young creators feel supported and encouraged to continue developing their craft.
Film Access Northumberland also operates year-round programming through its First Takes initiative, which works with local schools to teach filmmaking, storytelling and production skills.
Organizers encourage residents to attend, meet local filmmakers and support the next generation of creative talent in Northumberland.
