Municipalities across Northumberland are preparing for the Victoria Day long weekend with several closures, modified schedules and public safety reminders.
In Cobourg, municipal buildings including Victoria Hall, the Cobourg Community Centre, Venture13 and the Cobourg Public Library will be closed Monday, May 18 for the holiday.
The Cobourg Public Library will also close Friday, May 15 for a professional development day.
Cobourg Transit, however, will continue operating regular service hours throughout the holiday Monday.
In Port Hope, municipal administrative buildings will close Monday and reopen Tuesday, May 19.
Port Hope Transit will not operate on Victoria Day, while the Hope Transfer Station will also be closed.
The Jack Burger Sports Complex pool will operate on a modified holiday schedule from noon until 4 p.m., while the Town Park Recreation Centre and local library branches will be closed.
Port Hope officials are also reminding residents that fireworks are only permitted between dusk and 11 p.m. under municipal bylaws.
Residents planning outdoor fires are reminded burn permits are required for controlled open air burning, with permits available through each municipality’s online system.
In Brighton, residents can also expect holiday related municipal office and facility closures throughout the Victoria Day weekend, along with seasonal events and activities taking place across the community.
Municipal officials across the region are wishing residents a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
