A Port Hope resident is facing charges after Northumberland OPP says they seized stolen vehicles, a boat and other items believed to be related to criminal activity worth more than $900,000.
Police said their probe started Saturday, May 23, 2026, after officers responded to a complaint about a stolen vehicle at a County Road 65 property.
Police alleged they found a stolen pick-up truck and said the Peterborough/Northumberland community street crime unit was also engaged to help with the investigation. The following day, police said a search warrant was executed at the property, leading to numerous stolen vehicles found within wooded areas on the property and the recovery of a fishing boat.
“In total, police seized seven motor vehicles, a boat and other items believed to be related to criminal activity,” said police, in an update, adding the estimated value of the recovered vehicles is about $900,000.
As a result of the investigation, police said Syed Shah, 41, of the Municipality of Port Hope, was charged with eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of altering/destroying/removing a vehicle identification number.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
