Three people have died and another remains seriously injured following a collision involving a passenger vehicle and four motorcycles in Kawartha Lakes.
Emergency crews, including OPP, paramedics and fire services, responded to the intersection of Highway 7 and New Heights Road near Omemee at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday following reports of a serious crash.
According to OPP, the collision involved a passenger vehicle and four motorcycles.
Police say the driver of the car, an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 72-year-old motorcyclist from Dunchurch also died at the scene. A third victim, a 65-year-old man from Barrie, was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries but later succumbed to those injuries in hospital.
A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Sudbury was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto trauma centre for further treatment. A second Sudbury motorcyclist, age 36, was treated and released at the scene.
Highway 7 was closed for several hours while members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation unit examined the scene and gathered evidence. The roadway later reopened after investigators completed their work.
Police have not released any information regarding the cause of the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing, and OPP are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage from the area to contact investigators.
The crash marks one of the region’s deadliest roadway incidents this year.
