According to Cobourg police, several recent investigations have resulted in charges involving impaired driving, assault and shoplifting.
In the most recent impaired driving case, police say a concerned citizen reported a vehicle travelling eastbound on King Street East shortly after 1:15 a.m. on June 9 that appeared to have been involved in a collision.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description with damage consistent with striking road markers and conducted a traffic stop. Following an investigation, a 35-year-old Port Hope resident was charged with impaired operation and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Police say the vehicle was impounded.
In a separate incident on June 11, officers responded to a report of a dispute between neighbours in the area of Sutherland Crescent and Ontario Street.
According to police, a verbal altercation between two adults escalated when one individual allegedly pulled another person from a lawn chair before running toward a youth. Following an investigation, a 35-year-old Cobourg resident was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
Police also reported charges following a shoplifting investigation at a business near Albert Street and Third Street on June 10.
Staff told police four individuals had allegedly stolen merchandise from the store twice earlier in the day and had returned for a third time.
When officers arrived, police say three of the suspects fled from a vehicle on foot before being apprehended nearby.
As a result of the investigation, four 17-year-olds from the Greater Toronto Area were charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused in all three cases were released and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The charges have not been tested in court.
