Cobourg police have laid charges against two women following unrelated investigations on June 26.
In the first case, police say officers responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a business on Elgin Street West. Police say the theft had occurred two days earlier, on June 24.
Investigators reviewed security footage and identified a suspect who allegedly left the store with unpaid merchandise. Officers later located the individual while on foot patrol.
A 27-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and three counts of breaching probation. She was held for a bail hearing.
Later that afternoon, at about 4:30 p.m., officers were called to a business in the area of Division Street and University Avenue following reports of a disturbance.
Police say staff reported an individual became disruptive, damaged property and was no longer welcome at the business.
Following an investigation, a 36-year-old Bowmanville woman was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.
She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
Cobourg police continue to encourage businesses and members of the public to report suspicious activity and criminal incidents as soon as possible.
