Port Hope council members will tackle a wide ranging agenda when they meet for Committee of the Whole on Tuesday evening, with the municipality’s recent purchase of the former Central Public School expected to draw significant attention.
Council will review a staff report on the acquisition of 39 Pine Street, the historic building the municipality recently purchased for $3.25 million. Municipal officials have said the property will provide much needed office space by relocating select staff while preserving one of Port Hope’s best known heritage landmarks.
Other reports on Tuesday’s agenda include a response to previous council motions on additional residential units, the municipality’s Climate Contribution Spending Plan, a procurement agreement to replace a Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services fire prevention vehicle and a project to replace the municipality’s financial system.
Council will also review a summary of 2025 municipal grants, consider updates to the municipality’s surplus lands and road allowance policies, discuss requests to purchase unopened municipal road allowances near Lakeshore Road and review the proposed schedule for council, committee and public meetings in 2027.
Also on the agenda is a notice of motion regarding the protection of Port Hope’s tree canopy.
Committee of the Whole meetings allow council members to discuss reports and receive recommendations before matters return to a future regular council meeting for final decisions.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall and will be livestreamed on the municipality’s YouTube channel. Residents can also attend in person and participate through question period, delegations and public comments on agenda items.
