Cobourg Police have laid charges against several individuals following unrelated investigations involving an alleged police flight, a shoplifting incident and an assault.
The most serious case involves an 18-year-old Camborne man, who police allege fled from officers on two separate occasions over the weekend.
Police say officers attempted to stop a vehicle on D’Arcy Street Saturday evening for Highway Traffic Act violations, but the driver fled. The same vehicle was spotted again Sunday night before allegedly accelerating away at a high rate of speed with its lights turned off.
Following an investigation, police arrested the suspect and seized a prohibited knife. Charges include two counts each of flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation, along with stunt driving, possession of a prohibited weapon and several Highway Traffic Act offences. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the driver’s licence suspended for 30 days.
In a separate incident Friday evening, a 28-year-old Oakville man was arrested following a reported shoplifting at a business on Albert Street. Police say the suspect fled on foot and became combative during the arrest. He faces charges including theft under $5,000, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing.
Police have also concluded an assault investigation stemming from a June disturbance at a residential building on King Street East. Three people – a youth and two adults – have been charged with assault causing bodily harm. One of the adult accused also faces additional charges related to the possession of fentanyl and breaching a release order.
