Two local residents are facing criminal charges after Ontario Provincial Police discovered trip wires allegedly designed to cause bodily harm while investigating a recent break and enter.
The investigation took place on July 3, when members of the Quinte West OPP Community Street Crime Unit, assisted by the Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, searched Parks Canada property on Subway Road in Trenton.
Police say officers were investigating a recent theft in the Quinte West area when they discovered a number of trip wires that had been set up to deter people from entering the property. The devices were safely disarmed and removed before posing a danger to others.
A 40-year-old Quinte West man has been charged with setting traps likely to cause bodily harm, two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of methamphetamine, and mischief.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 13.
Police have not released details about the theft investigation that led officers to the property.
