Downtown Cobourg is welcoming visitors today for the 58th Annual Sidewalk Sale, but drivers should expect road closures throughout the event.
The Town of Cobourg says closures began at 7 a.m. today and will remain in place until Sunday, August 2 at 8 a.m.
Affected areas include King Street from Spring Street to Division Street, Second Street from King Street to Albert Street, Third Street from King Street to Albert Street, and George Street closed to through traffic at Covert Street.
Local businesses remain open during the event, and motorists are being asked to use alternate routes and follow posted signage.
The Sidewalk Sale runs Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event features outdoor sales from downtown businesses, local artisans and vendors, live music, food trucks, extended patios and activities for families.
Visitors are encouraged to explore downtown on foot, by bike or by carpool where possible. The Town says emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the closure period.
Those attending the event can take advantage of three hours of free parking in municipal lots and on street parking spaces, with additional time available for a fee.
The Town is reminding visitors to support local businesses and explore the shops, restaurants and attractions available throughout downtown Cobourg.
