The Cobourg Police Service has laid charges following several unrelated investigations involving suspected drugs, impaired driving and theft.
Police say the first investigation began around 1:50 a.m. on July 21, when officers on general patrol in the area of Queen Street and Church Street allegedly observed a 42 year old Cobourg woman in possession of a bag containing suspected fentanyl.
The woman was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule One substance and failing to comply with a probation order. She was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
On July 27, officers conducting traffic enforcement in the area of King Street East and Brook Road North stopped a vehicle after allegedly observing that it did not have a front licence plate.
Police say officers observed signs of impairment as well as cannabis and related paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle.
A 20 year old Roseneath man was arrested and transported for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert.
Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of several licence plates registered to other vehicles and individuals.
The man is facing charges including operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, failing to display two licence plates, failing to surrender a vehicle permit, failing to surrender an insurance card and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
He was released on an undertaking with a future court date, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The Cobourg Police Service says three people were arrested July 27 in connection with separate theft investigations.
Police say a 25 year old Cobourg man was arrested after officers allegedly observed him while on patrol and recognized him as someone wanted in connection with a theft reported at a business near Spring Street and King Street West on July 18.
He is facing a charge of theft under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with probation.
In a separate investigation, a 46 year old Cobourg man was arrested in connection with a theft involving property allegedly stolen from a residence on July 13. He is facing a charge of theft under $5,000.
In the third investigation, officers responded to a theft report involving a business in the Elgin Street West area. Police say a review of surveillance footage helped identify a suspect, who was later located in downtown Cobourg.
A 44 year old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.
Police say all three men were released on undertakings with future court dates.
