Cobourg council is preparing to consider a proposal for a new retirement residence and seniors’ housing development in the east end of town.
The municipality has announced that complete applications have been received for official plan and zoning bylaw amendments affecting properties located at 535 and 536 John Keefer Mahony Court.
According to the application submitted by RFA Planning Consultant Inc. on behalf of Belle Station LP, the proposal includes a nine-storey retirement residence containing 241 units, as well as 104 seniors’ apartment units and ground-floor commercial space.
The development would be constructed on Block 60, while Block 61 would continue to accommodate an existing five-storey apartment building containing 102 residential units.
Town officials say the official plan amendment would redesignate the lands to permit the proposed high-density residential use. The zoning amendment would address issues related to residential and commercial uses, building height, parking requirements and other site-specific provisions.
A public meeting has been scheduled for Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. in council chambers at Victoria Hall. Residents will have the opportunity to attend in person, participate virtually or submit written comments to the town.
The Town of Cobourg noted that individuals wishing to participate electronically must register before noon on the business day preceding the meeting.
