Cobourg Police have announced a series of arrests connected to traffic violations, theft investigations, outstanding warrants and liquor-related offences.
One investigation began on July 29 when officers stopped a vehicle on James Street East after learning the vehicle’s insurance status could not be confirmed and that the registered owner did not possess a valid driver’s licence.
Police allege the 35-year-old Cobourg driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle under the conditions of a release order. He was charged with failing to comply with a release order, two counts of driving while under suspension, failing to surrender a vehicle permit and failing to surrender an insurance card.
Officers also responded to several shoplifting complaints.
A 21-year-old Cobourg man was charged after a theft was reported at a business on Elgin Street West. Police say fentanyl was found during the arrest. The accused faces charges that include theft under $5,000, possession of a Schedule I substance and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
In separate incidents, a 28-year-old Cobourg man and a 35-year-old Cobourg woman were charged with theft-related offences after investigations at businesses on King Street East and Strathy Road.
Police also took custody of two individuals who were wanted on outstanding warrants issued by the Cobourg Police Service.
In another series of incidents, officers laid charges against three individuals accused of possessing open alcohol in public places between Aug. 2 and Aug. 4. One of the individuals was also wanted on an outstanding warrant held by another police service.
Police further reported the arrest of a 32-year-old Cobourg woman on outstanding warrants during a property check near King Street West and College Street. She was charged with failing to attend court, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a Schedule I substance and failing to comply with a probation order.
A separate investigation led to the arrest of a 42-year-old Cobourg woman after officers responded to Victoria Beach following a report of a suspicious person. Police allege she was violating court-ordered conditions prohibiting her from entering the area.
All charges have yet to be tested in court.
