Port Hope residents are being invited to get creative as the Municipality of Port Hope brings back its popular “Name that Snowplow” contest ahead of the coming winter season.
The initiative began last year, when residents came up with names for two municipal plows. “Plowie McPlowFace” and “The Big Leplowski” quickly became recognizable names on local roads during a particularly challenging winter.
Municipal officials say the response was so strong that the contest is returning, giving residents another opportunity to use humour, creativity and local pride to name two snowplows.
Officials say the contest is also intended to recognize those employees and the important work they perform during difficult winter conditions.
Residents have until Sept. 25 to submit their ideas. Names can draw inspiration from local landmarks, famous figures or winter-related puns, with the municipality encouraging submissions that are short, memorable, fun and appropriate.
The winning names are expected to be announced during the week of Nov. 23. Winners will receive bragging rights and an opportunity to have their photograph taken with the plow bearing their chosen name.
The municipality recorded between 4,500 and 5,000 hours of winter maintenance in 2025, including plowing, sanding, salting, sidewalk clearing, snow removal and overnight road patrols.
