Lakelands Public Health has appointed Dr. Maxwell Tran as its new Associate Medical Officer of Health.
Tran brings experience in family medicine, hospitalist medicine and public health to the role.
He completed his Doctor of Medicine and a combined Family Medicine and Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency at the University of Toronto, serving as Chief Resident for both programs. During his residency, he also earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he was a Sommer Scholar.
His public health training included rotations with Halton Region, Peel Public Health, Toronto Public Health and York Region Public Health, as well as Public Health Ontario and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Tran has also maintained clinical practice across Ontario, working with patients in North York, Parry Sound, Sioux Lookout and Sandy Lake First Nation.
Lakelands Medical Officer of Health Dr. Thomas Piggott says Tran’s combination of academic training, clinical experience and public health work will be an asset to the health unit.
Tran says he is looking forward to working with staff, the Board of Health, municipalities, First Nations and other partners to improve the health of communities across the Lakelands region.
