Soluroc is investing more than $5.4 million to expand its Cobourg manufacturing operation and increase production capacity.
The company, which manufactures parts for the mining and heavy industrial sectors, is investing $5,411,130 in the project.
The expansion will add 18,000 square feet to Soluroc’s existing Cobourg facility and bring in advanced manufacturing equipment, including CNC-controlled waterjet cutters, automated welding systems, roll-forming lines, surface grinders and an Industry 4.0 connectivity platform.
The company says the investment will help bring some manufacturing capabilities currently outsourced to suppliers in the United States and Europe back to Cobourg.
Soluroc says the project will retain 27 existing jobs and create 12 new jobs in Northumberland-Peterborough South.
The Ontario government is contributing $500,000 to the project through the Regional Development Program’s Eastern Ontario Development Program.
Soluroc CEO Christian Gagnon says the company chose to invest during a period when some manufacturers are pulling back.
The company says the expanded Cobourg operation will include a Chrome Carbide overlay line and increase its ability to serve mining and heavy industry customers in new markets.
The provincial government says it has committed more than $250 million through its Regional Development Program to support manufacturers and other businesses across Ontario.
Northumberland Manufacturers Association Executive Director Darla Price says the investment demonstrates continued confidence in the region’s manufacturing sector and could have broader benefits for local suppliers, families and the community.
