Blue Dot Northumberland will host a municipal election candidates’ forum in Cobourg next month, focusing on environmental, energy, housing and affordability issues facing the community.
The public event is scheduled for Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Columbus Community Hall on Spencer Street East. Organizers say candidates will be asked about homelessness and community safety, affordable housing and sustainable energy, including potential local impacts from the proposed Wesleyville nuclear plant.
The environmental advocacy group says the forum is intended to give residents an opportunity to hear candidates discuss issues that could affect Cobourg’s quality of life and future development.
Blue Dot Northumberland spokesperson Michael Perley says the event comes as residents face important decisions involving affordability, energy and environmental sustainability.
Residents are being encouraged to attend the forum and hear directly from candidates ahead of the Oct. 26 municipal election.
