A sign reminding people that advertising is not permitted has gone up at Notre Dame Catholic Elementary School in Cobourg following the placement of unauthorized signs, including an election campaign sign.
The sign was posted along the east side of the school, on the fence facing Tim Hortons. Cobourg By-law Enforcement contacted the school last week after becoming aware of the signage.
The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board says the school did not authorize any election or advertising signs on its property.
School staff removed the unauthorized signs after being notified by by-law enforcement. The new notice has since been posted along the fence as a reminder that school property cannot be used for campaign advertising or other unauthorized signage.
With the municipal election campaign underway, the board says candidates and supporters need to be aware of the rules governing where political signs can be placed.
