Two people are facing multiple weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop in Cobourg that resulted in the seizure of suspected MDMA, a replica firearm and other items police believe were stolen.
Cobourg police say officers spotted a man wearing a balaclava getting into a vehicle in an Elgin Street West parking lot Saturday night. The driver was later found to be suspended and subject to a firearms prohibition order. A search following a stop on Burnham Street turned up about 30 grams of suspected MDMA, cannabis, a Glock BB gun, a knife, an Ontario licence plate, alcohol, cellphones and cash.
Stephen Galloway-Ellis, 20, of Hastings, faces numerous charges, including possession of MDMA for the purpose of trafficking, several firearms offences, weapons charges, driving while suspended and possession of property obtained by crime.
A 17-year-old female passenger was also charged with drug, firearm and property offences, along with liquor-related charges. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Galloway-Ellis was held for a bail hearing.
