Port Hope is preparing to put a new tourism strategy into action, with a focus on building the municipality’s reputation as a four-season destination while generating lasting local economic benefits.
Tourism operators, businesses and community partners are invited to a strategy launch Dec. 1 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Jack Burger Sports Complex. The session will outline the municipality’s five-year plan and opportunities for local participation.
Port Hope council recently approved the strategy and accompanying action plan, which were developed through consultations with businesses, residents, tourism operators, cultural organizations and others involved in the visitor economy.
The plan identifies priorities including improved way-finding and visitor information, stronger year-round tourism, partnerships, accessibility and stewardship, as well as measuring results and reporting progress.
Mayor Olena Hankivsky says tourism remains an important part of Port Hope’s economy and the strategy will help build on the community’s strengths while supporting local businesses and creating experiences for residents and visitors.
The strategy was shaped by community engagement conducted between late 2023 and 2024, with additional input gathered in February 2026. Attendance at the Dec. 1 launch requires advance registration.
