United Way Northumberland is helping the Northumberland OPP provide practical assistance to people facing hardship through an $800 donation in grocery store gift cards.
The cards will be distributed by members of the Mental Health Engagement And Response Team, or MHEART, to individuals and families encountered during calls involving mental health concerns and community wellness across Northumberland County.
MHEART combines police and health-care professionals to connect vulnerable residents with resources, services and ongoing support.
Northumberland OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Mike Cavanagh says the donation gives the team another way to help people during difficult circumstances while connecting them with longer-term assistance.
OPP members and MHEART representatives recently joined United Way Northumberland officials to mark the contribution.
