The Northumberland Witch Walk takes place Saturday October 24th in Colborne.
It is a free community gathering to honour women throughout history whose voices and stories were silenced, persecuted or erased.
Lead coordinator for the Northumberland Witch Walk Kim Etherington says this event differs from other witch walks in Ontario.
She says the walk also takes place to reclaim the word “witch”
There are activities in Victoria Square Park before the walk.
At 5 o’clock a theatrical presentation will take place recounting the stories of five women in history prosecuted during the witch hunts.
The walk happens after that starting in Victoria Square park heads south on Toronto street to King street, then east to Victoria street,
south to North street, west to Division street then north back to the park
Etherington says this isn’t considered a Halloween event and costumes are not encouraged.
More than 800 people have registered to be there and you are encouraged to register, but are not required to and can go to the event.
The first 300 registered people to check in will get a free Northumberland Witch Walk hat.
