Black History Month in Northumberland
February is recognized across Canada as Black History Month, a time to honour the history, culture, and contributions of Black people. In Northumberland County, residents are invited to attend Pan African flag raising ceremonies taking place in Cobourg, Port Hope, and across the county throughout February. The Town of Cobourg will raise the Pan African flag for the first time on January 30 at 2:00 PM at Victoria Hall and proclaim February as Black History Month. Residents are also invited to a Black History Month Community Open House and Luncheon on Saturday, February 7, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Masonic Lodge, 54 Toronto Road in Port Hope. The event is organized by the Northumberland Diverse People Coalition and is open to all residents. Community Care Northumberland will be in attendance through its Meals on Wheels program, inviting donations in support of local seniors and vulnerable neighbours.
