December 6 is a somber day meant to remember the lives lost.
It’s marked annually as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Mandy Robinson is a committee member of Cobourg’s End Silence About Violence group, and she explains the tragedy that took place in 1989.
14 women were murdered that day and 10 others were injured in the name of ‘fighting feminism,’ and gender based violence continues to be an issue in 2018.
Each year the group organizes a service at The Gathering Place in Victoria Park to commemorate the shooting, and fellow ESAV (E SAVE) committee member Ilong (ill own uh) Kaltenhauser (Call Ten Houser) says there’s great guest speakers lined up this year.
There will also be live music, poetry followed by refreshments after the service.
It’ll get underway at noon tomorrow.
